Lookin recipe: yellow cake, poke holes in it, pour warm chocolate icing on top?

My grandma used to make this when I was a kid but she can't find the recipe now. It was a yellow cake (I'm sure just a mix). When it was done she would poke holes in it with the bottom of a wooden spoon. She would make a chocolate frosting and pour it over the cake while the frosting was still warm and it would sink into the holes in the cake. Any idea about how to make that frosting?Lookin recipe: yellow cake, poke holes in it, pour warm chocolate icing on top?
CAKE

1 (18 ounce) package yellow cake mix

1 1/4 cups water

1/2 cup butter

3 eggs

PUDDING

2 (3 1/2 ounce) packages chocolate instant pudding

1 cup confectioners' sugar

4 cups cold milk

1Prepare and bake cake as package directs in a 9x13 pan. (NOTE: Different cake mixes may require different ingredients than mine.) Remove from oven.

2Poke holes at once through the cake with a round handle of a wooden spoon. Holes should be in 1'; intervals.

3After the holes are made, combine the sugar and pudding mix in a large bowl. Gradully stir in the milk. Beat at low speed for 1 minute.

4Before the pudding thickens, pour about half evenly over the warm cake and into the holes.

5Allow the remaining pudding to thicken slightly; then spoon over the top, swirling to frost the cake. Chill at least 1 hour. Store in refrigerator.

6TIP: You can use different flavors of pudding and cake for different flavors. Try adding 1/2 C peanut butter to the chocolate pudding for a Peanut Butter Poke Cake.Lookin recipe: yellow cake, poke holes in it, pour warm chocolate icing on top?
You use an instand yellow cake mix, bake it, poke the holes in it, but you pour ready made chocolate pudding into the holes, then frost it with your favorite frosting. Chill before serving
Could it have been chocolate pudding instead of frosting? That's the way most Poke Cakes are made. You can also use Jello, made with half the water. Cover with cool whip. Most kids dream cake.
I have seen something like that but using chocolate pudding.

Just pour the warm ( instant pudding ) in the holes cover and refridgerate. You can even add whipped cream as an icing
