I found that recipe...but doesn't it need water? And if it does, how much should I add?Strawberry cake filling recipe?

No, the berries have plenty of water in them to dissolve the sugar AND let the cornstarch hold it all in suspension. Just follow the recipe, using granulated sugar.
no water .... the strawberries will create their own juice when you add the sugar. If the recipe doesn't specify confectioner's sugar, then you always use regular. It will tell you if you need another kind of sugar

just chop up strawberries and mix them with sugar stir it up really well and viola... shortcake filling
